Lucky us, the desert was in bloom! This was the first time I had seen blooming ocotillo. It usually appears as a dead looking jumble of sticks (often cut and used for fencing or for covering pergolas). But in the spring it leafs out and has red flowers at the top. Hummingbirds supposedly follow the blooms north during their migration. These were south of Tucson.

Yikes, I didn't know that those bloomed either....good timing.
